Personality:

On the surface, Sephiran is calm and composed in all situations. Not even when his life is threatened does he show the slightest loss of composure; someone threatens to tear his lungs out and all he says is "be my guest." His calm reflects his status as a mastermind; he has each step of his plan to bring an end to the Laguz and the Beorc planned out and can make room for contingency plans. He remains composed as each of his pieces fall into place and a war spanning the whole continent of Tellius threatens to break out. There are very few things that can make him lose his cool... or so it seems.

Underneath the surface, Sephiran carries centuries of despair. It all started after the birth of his child with the Beorc heroine Altina, the world's first Branded. He lost his powers as a Heron Laguz- that is, he lost his abilities to shift between his human and animal forms and to sing galdrar. According to a conversation with some of the Dragon Laguz, Sephiran attempted suicide numerous times after the loss of his power, a testament to just how deep that despair ran at that point alone. However, that was not his lowest point, no. When the Serenes Massacre occured, Sephiran completely broke. It was at that moment that he decided that the best outcome for the world would be to wipe out everyone- Beorc and Laguz alike. What he feels for the Beorc and Laguz is not entirely just hatred; it seems to be also an overwhelming sadness over the fate that "must" be delivered to them and a regret that there is no redemption for them.

None of this is to say that Sephiran is not capable of caring for others, however. Sanaki, the Empress of Begnion, was like a daughter to him (and, for that matter, actually is one of his descendants, since his child with Altina became the first Apostle of Begnion); he expresses great sorrow about the lies and twisted information he has told her, and even calls her his "sun and his moon." Furthermore, he expressed great sympathy for the plight of Zelgius, a soldier of Daein who also happened to be a Branded. Sephiran said that he shared a "similar condition" with Zelgius (which was true; Sephiran's status as a powerless Laguz is similar to Zelgius being a Beorc with Laguz blood). Zelgius would go on to be one of Sephiran's followers and most instrumental tools in putting his plans in action.

Abilities: He can use powerful light magic, dark magic, and staves. Light magic and dark magic are both offensive in nature, while staves can have various effects, from healing to inflicting status effects. In-game, Sephiran's skill rank in all three areas is SS, the highest it can go. This implies an immense amount of skill and power in using those types of magic. In game, this means he can use all types of light magic, dark magic, or staves. Sephiran's special magic tome, Creiddylad, is one of the most powerful tomes in the game. Given Sephiran's long life, it's not surprising that he had time to attain this sort of mastery of magic.

On a separate note, he lost most of his Laguz abilities after his child was born (he lost the ability to transform and to sing galdrar, song magic with various effects).

Sample Entry:

[First-person sample.]

Ever since I came to this tower, I wonder... since the world has been destroyed... Does that mean that those intrepid warriors failed, and my plan succeeded? Has Ashera truly wiped the world of the Laguz and Beorc? If she has, I suppose it makes sense that she would do away with me as well. However, I wonder how she envisioned something like this. A place full of all manner of beasts, with many other people who claim to be from other worlds... could the Goddess really create something like this tower? I was never aware that she had the power to reach into other worlds and bring people together like this. Perhaps I am wrong, and this tower is not the Goddess's creation at all. I suppose it makes sense that she would put me here, where I could be "punished as my success would be rewarded." But what if I am wrong? What kind of bizarre world is this, and how was I plucked from Tellius's grasp and brought here if the Goddess didn't send me here?

Perhaps my coming here lines up with how I expected my fate to proceed too much, and that is why I have trouble believing that the Goddess didn't have some hand in this. I expected some sort of punishment for my failure to honor the Goddess's covenant. Perhaps this is it... but I don't know what to think if this is not the Goddess's doing. Perhaps I should ask around. Those who have been in the tower longer than I have may have better knowledge of this place's workings.
